Pics from Shoshana sewing centre, Venkatappaiah colony, Guntur.

Insturctor Anitha with the new group of women.

Most of women especially from this area are daily workers. Chilli pickers either in fields or Chilli markets.   Chilli is a seasonal crop so they run out of work half of the year. They need some alternate work to support their families, More over for women with small kids, it is difficult to work in fields since they have to take the kids to the fields.

Stitching ,  they could work from at home or in a tailor shop, it is convenient for them to manage the household as well as the work.

The present group of women started their sewing training in March-16 and propably they will finish by the end of this year.
Anitha, the instructor is helping them in getting proper training and see that each one who is in need gets a sewing machine and  encouraging the women to use the skill for their self help.

Pics from Shoshana Medical Centre, Swarna.

Most of the medical centres have patients with fevers, headache, vomitings and diarrhea. Since malaria is prevalent in some parts of the state, people have to take care of the precautionary steps. Government is doing awareness programs but this process might take a little while to actually get into the people.

We  have most of our medical centers in remote areas, areas which are not with clean surroundings. Most of the people are falling sick easily.

Beside medication, some of the patients are asking for mosquito nets.

Nirmala is our  first sewing teacher. Kamala, her daughter joined recently as an Embroidery teacher at the same project. Kamala is also a trained nurse, she could as well give medical support if there is a need.

So far Nirmala has been helping the needy women in this area for the past 16 years and propably this would be the last batch for her in Guntur as she is planning to move to a new place which is near to Guntur.

So far Shoshana  helped more that 150 women there by helping their families from this project for their better living. Not only the free training we see that they get a sewing machine.
