Showing some pictures from the new group of women at one of our sewing projects from Vijayawada who started their tailoring course in June-2023.
All these women are from in and around Giripuram, Vijayawada. Coming from very needy backgrounds each one has a story. The instructor Ms.Hemima came to know about their situation picked them for the new group and is encouraging them to learn the skill so that it could definitely make their life situations better.
Here is a story of one of the women:
Vani from Giripuram, Vijayawada. She is 21yrs old, finished her school. Stopped her education because of the financial situation at home but she is very much interested to study further. She joined her graduation course in a distance education mode.
Father was a carpenter. He is diabetic. Two years back he had a brain stroke and is completely bed ridden now. He has gone totally blind over the years. Mother was a daily worker. Their family situation was better when both her parents were working. Because of her father's situation her mother is at home taking care of him. Her brother who also stopped studies is the only earning member in the family. He is a daily worker in a welding shop. With his meagre income it is difficult for them to get along with their household expenses and medical expenses along with their house rents.
Vani joined the sewing class recently. She with her basic sewing skills, is earning a very small amount like with putting hooks on blouses. making pillow covers, hand sewing saree falls etc.
She is requesting for a sewing machine so that she could practice more and also earn some money by doing some repairs or alterations for basic clothing needs while doing her sewing course.
By the time she finishes her sewing course she would be ready to go , work on her own and support her family.
