CDS- Shoshana Sewing Centre - Anaparru

The sewing class started at the beginning of this year and the current group is almost towards the end of the class. All four women from are from this village and have come from agricultural background. Two of the women are coolies in fields and two are housewives. 

We have female teachers in all our sewing projects and the one in Anaparru is Mrs. Saranya. Her mother is also a sewing teacher in one of our sewing projects.

Going forward our goal is provide each of the trainees with a sewing machine and basic equipment for stitching after completion of the class. This would help them to start their own businesses.

We have together taught them how to stitch and now they need necessary equipment to start working on their own. This would complete the empowerment cycle.

The women were excited to show what they have learned in the class.

Shoshana Medical center is set up in Bhanu nagar, Vijayawada where there is a large slum  to provide access to good medical facility.  Especially to provide information to the people on how to maintain a hygienic environment in the surroundings

The urban slum dwellers are most vulnerable to  lack of access to health care. Slums are usually overcrowded and children under the age of five are vulnerable to malnutrition and infectious diseases.

Even though slum people live close to health services they have difficulty getting needed care. They can't afford the cost of health care and also they can't take time off to seek care because they work all the time to meet their needs.

Improving health services in slums will have a large impact on health in developing countries and because slums are overcrowded, better health services could benefit many people at once.Our aim is to give them good quality health care and provide free essential medication

Below are a few photos from the tailoring center and little girls from the slum modelling their dresses.

These girls are now learning a life long skill to sew for their families and also use their skill to earn an income.

The tailoring group recently donated a few dresses to the slum children. This was possible because you helped to provide the sewing machines.
