 Shoshana Medical Project, Johnpet, Chirala.

Medical help for a backward community on the outskirts of Chirala. People  here are mostly daily workers in agricultural fields.

Our main focus is on helping the needy older people here who are mostly diabetic and high blood pressure patients. Providing basic medication along with the diabetic and blood pressure medicine for those who can't afford it.

Having a regular nurse in this area helps them to get the checkups done from time to time.

The nurse Mrs. Prasanna comes from the same area and she has the prior experience of working at one of our Medical Projects for quite some years now. She is taking care of both the projects.

Shoshana Sewing Project, Chenchula colony, Gannavaram

Sewing Instructor - Malleswari

Started recently with the initiative of a local society for the  tribal women. The colony is close to Vijayawada airport.

For generations, these tribal people are into begging, hunting, fishing and rag picking    . People move from one area to another looking for work. They live in  colonies with temporary shelters where ever they go. It is a big colony of 500 families of three different tribal communities. Child marriages and women abuse is common. Children never enrolled in schools.

Some organizations who work for backward communities are trying to get them permanent housing facility from the Government. Encouraging children  going to school. We from Shoshana, offered   free sewing classes for needy women so that they could have an alternate work for their living besides their regular occupations.

A local church allowed them  to use their premises for the sewing class  . Started with a group of five women .

Seeing the interest of the women, we would like to continue for a few more classes in this area. Providing with a sewing machine after the class and see that they have their own small business is for future plan.

Shoshana Medical Centre,  Tadiparru village, Guntur District.

Recently there is a change in the area, for those who follow the blog. Before the first aid centre was at the village community centre, located at the Church compound for almost 10 years. The village elders gave the community hall for the medical services but now the community needed the room back for other welfare activities so now it is moved to Ambedkar nagar area, Tadiparru.

Few pics from the area:

As usually giving out  all the basic medication. Besides that keeping the Covid med available for mild symptoms.

Nurse - Sukhaveni

Of course there are lot of covid positive cases around the area but majority of the people are not scared compared to the previous variants. Seeing the situation, it looks more like a common flu. It is getting cured in a week's time with home quarantine and basic medication. Unlike the previous years, staying in the hospital is also not necessary unless  there is severity.

Agricultural workers coming back from work. Good to see happy faces.

Shoshana Sewing Project - Nagaralu, Guntur.

There is a  sharp rise in the Covid infections for the last few days all over the country, we Shoshana on the whole is taking all the necessary safety measures to run the projects.  Safe side we have all the necessary medication available at our medical projects. The work of the projects has to go on as we can't afford to stop the projects for a long time. During the last two years many families lost their regular jobs due to the lock downs, financial crisis everywhere, at least with the sewing training, the women could help themselves, earn some living from at home and support their families.

Majority of our sewing instructors and nurses were also effected with the virus and even hospitalized  in the last two years but by God's grace there were no deaths. Everyone recovered and the work is going on. Big thanks to all the support coming to Shoshana to keep up the work.

Here are a few pics from one of our sewing projects -  Nagaralu, Guntur.

Latest pics from Shoshana sewing centre, Gaddipadu - Guntur.

Sewing projects are running as usually after the Covid lockdown. Usually the duration of the sewing class takes 8 months to one year but it was taking more time than usual due to the lock downs and as the women are not gathering in group. Each one was having seperate timings . Now the situation came to  normal for the last few months and  the women are having their regular sewing classes.

Coming to the  present group of women  -  All five of them are school drop outs, one is married and the remaining four are single. Helping in household work. Parents are workers(sweepers) in local municipality. Coming from economically backward sections these women have no other alternate income source except working as daily workers because of the less educational qualification.

These women want to be independent and have their own way of decent living. The instructors are encouraging them and helping them to learn as much as they can and eventually provide them with a sewing machine to start their own shop or referring them to  a tailor shop where they could find work.

The instructor Mrs. Nirmala has been a part of Shoshana for the last 20 years and ever since she has been teaching hundreds of women to be independent. Happy to see that the sewing centre is still running successfully helping women for their self help. Shoshana - Germany made it possible all these years helping hundreds of families for their self help.

On behalf of all the projects, I wish all the friends and well wishers of Shoshana a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Shoshana Medical Centre, Ravipadu

Nurse - Bala sundari

Ravipadu is a small area away from the main town of Narasaraopet.

Shoshana has a medical project in one of the backward areas of Ravipadu where majority of the people are agricultural labourers. Both men and women work in fields.

This medical project mostly work as first aid clinic. Beside giving the basic medication, free blood pressure check ups  and Sugar tests are done. Since people are mostly daily workers they get immediate help for minor injuries like cuts, bleeding wounds etc. They get the initial treatment before they see a doctor.

The nurse is from the same area so people had the best use of it during the Covid lock down period. Especially for old people who can't go to long distances to get the basic medication.

Before the project was maintained by a male nurse, recently a new nurse joined the project. Nurse has the experience of working in a private hospital for the past few years. Besides that she took up the responsibility of the medical project. She is also from the same area so she is familiar with the people and they could easily reach her any time. She has the access to a hospital she could easily help the people to see the doctor if there is any emergency.

Putting up some of the latest pics from the project.
