Visit to our Shoshana Medical project in Vijayawada city.

Recently announced that Capital of newly formed Andhra Pradesh would be in the surroundings of Vijayawada city and soon it is going to be a one of the developed cities in India but still there are many areas where there is medical need inspite of many Government hospitals and still many people who can't afford to pay even for first aid medication.

Our medical project is in one of such areas where there are large number of needy families migrated from different parts of A.P. Mainly building construction workers, vegetable , fruit vendors and  servant maids etc

The nurse Mrs.Sandhya besides being a partner of Shoshana is also working in a private hospital. This helps her to work more effectively and responsibly.

Instructor Krishnaveni with the new students

This batch has both girls and married women. Majority from Agricultural background. Girls who completed their schooling. Some discontinued studies because of their family financial situation and some are looking forward to continue further studies. They are utilizing this time for the training.

Because of the raising prices, to meet the household needs, women besides taking care of the children has to work for the living and to support the family.

Since they lack  education they need some skills to lead a better life. This training would give them some confidence for their self help.

Hello everyone,

Rainy season but no rains. Temperatures are getting high again.  Expecting rains soon.

Coming to our shoshana projects, some of the projects started new batches of training women in handicraft skills.
Happened to visit one of our sewing projects in Guntur and here are a few pics from that.

The instructor Mrs.Anitha has 10 new students for this batch and almost all of them come from a middle class background.  Occupations like drivers, electricians, mechanics etc. Each having two children living in rented houses.  Eventually it is necessary for both the couple to work for their living. These women have plans to support their families with the help of this training.

Happy with the way the instructors taking care of the women and quite satisfactory with their work.
Very happy to hear from the instructors that some of our previous batch women  started  training classes for women in their villages besides running their own tailoring shops.

Hi everyone,

New pics from Shoshana sewing centre, Navodaya nagar, Narasaraopet. New batch of women.

This new batch started in the month of May-14. Usually all our projects have summer break at this time so i would say they started regularly from June-14
This time the teacher Mrs.Satyavathi has students belonging to washer men community. Running mobile laundry shops. Both wife and husband share the work earning around 200-300 rupees a day.

I believe this additional training in stitching and embroidery would definitely help them in earning more money besides their regular work.

Prices are raising high day by day and one income in the family is not enough to meet the household needs. With this training they would like to have their own self employment.

Just in the beginning classes of the training. Started with hand sewing and some basic embroidery patterns.

when it comes to pics, they make serious faces otherwise they are happy bunch of women. Difficult to capture smiling faces.
