Shoshana Sewing Centre, Venkatappaiah colony, Guntur.

Some of the  new group of women who started training with Shoshana for their self help

Pics from one such group - Shoshana Sewing Centre, Guntur.

All of them come from a very poor financial background. Being school drops out with meagre educational qualifications there are not many second chance options for them except working as agricultural coolies or domestic helpers. Their earnings is not enough to lift the family out of poverty.

The local societies who are working with Shoshana are working in finding out the needy women and encouraging them to attend these free sewing training programs through which they can start up something on their own or take up a job.

Besides their role as a home maker they could as well work from home. The main goal of Shoshana is to help them achieve financial independence , their by supporting their families and providing proper education for their children instead of seeing them as child laborers.

Hi Friends,

Want to share few pics from our sewing projects who started classes for new group of women.

Shoshana has more than 13 sewing projects so far working for the benefit of needy women for the last 17 years.

The sewing projects are still popular and useful for the needy people especially girls who are school drop outs and house wives  as it opens up doors for the home based sewing business.

They start with the basics and proceed on to the dress making courses in a duration of about 8 months to one year. Shoshana provides them with all the necessary materials and an experienced instructor to teach and supervise the classes through out the process.

New medical project, Dasaripalem, Guntur.

Thanks to all the German friends who helped us in opening one more medical project in Guntur.

I am posting a few pics from the new medical project, Dasaripalem, Guntur.

Dasaripalem is one of the backward communities on the outskirts of Guntur. The local society called Bass has been doing some educational programs  in that area for needy children. Last year they came up with the request of starting a medical project in their area for the people.

People from all kinds of religions are living in that area. Government is providing them with housing. Majority of them are daily workers like chilli pickers. Colony is away from the city. Still in need of basic facilities like proper roads and   transport facility.  As we observed there is no access to medical help even for basic medication and first aid help.

Shoshana decided to provide first aid help in this area. Due to insufficient funds we couldn't open it right away. People have been waiting for the last few months and finally friends from Germany helped us in starting the heath centre last week.

The local society arranged for a room for the centre. They are going to supervise the project.

Mrs.Mary is the first aider who is going to take care of the medical centre.
We start with  first aid help, basic medication and Blood pressure check ups.

Shoshana Sewing Centre, Vijayawada.

It is very sad to write about one of our sewing instructors Mrs. Srivani.who passed away yesterday at the age of 66yrs. She had been working with Shoshana from the beginning ie from 2001.
She was a very active and lively woman. She had a heart for the poor and concern for needy woman around her area. Over the years she helped many woman to be independent .Though she crossed her retirement age she always used to say that she want to help people as along as she can. That is true and till her last day she was helping people. We miss her and may her soul rest in peace.
These pics were taken only two weeks back in our recent visit to her sewing project.

Shoshana medical centres in areas like Tadiparru, Epurupalem.

Nurses working for Shoshana medical centres at various places.
Some of the pics from the area and also from the medical centres.

Weavers colony in Epurupalem and Sainagar areas

We have qualified nurses who are attending all kinds of people especially old people with special needs.

These areas have less access to health care and not many health workers are available.

The professions the people  are in are mostly physical in nature like physical labour, farming, weavers exposed to chemicals, pollution etc

Not only rural areas Shoshana is extending its medical help to backward slums where people are mostly rag pickers, collecting waste living in very unhygienic  and unhealthy surroundings.

Besides giving out medication and first aid help, Shoshana is encouraging the nurses to educate the people about personal hygiene and health care.
