 CDS-Shoshana Medical Centre - Doppalapudi

Doppalapudi is a rural area in Guntur district.   Shoshana started medical help in the SC colony of Doppalapudi village in the year 2023.

Villagers are mostly farmers and agricultural daily wage workers.Women also work in fields. They come to the  medical centre in the evening after finishing the work if they are in need of any basic medication for wounds or cuts. Instead of travelling to a distant hospital they get help like wound cleaning  and proper dressing or if kids need any basic help for common illnesses like fever and minor injuries. Besides that they also get vitamins and other supplements. Regular checkups for Hypertension and diabetic patients.

It is not like a typical medical centre but a place where they can come around and seek help like basic medical help for common flu's and other general medication since they are far away from the nearest medical access.

CDS-Shoshana Medical Centre, Karamchedu

Most of our Shoshana health centres are located in rural areas where the rural residents often travel atleast 30 minutes to reach the nearest hospital so having medical access in their area helps the community to get immediate help before reaching the hospital.

Rural areas often struggle with long distances to reach the medical facilities so having a first aid facility in their area helps them to get immediate help like wound management or burns or B.P or sugar check ups helps them before reaching the hospital.

CDS-Shoshana Sewing Centre - Autonagar gate, Vijayawada

Ms. Hemima is the sewing instructor who took the initiative of finding about the situation of these women, proposed for a sewing centre in this area  and came forward for helping them with a sewing class.

This sewing project is specially started for waste picking women in Auto nagar gate area, Vijayawada. Started in the year 2024 with six women. There are around 300 people living in this area in temporary shelters. Majority of them are waste pickers and drainage cleaning workers. Women face lot of domestic abuse with drug addict and alcoholic husbands. Crime rate is also very high in this area.

Women are illiterates and are married early. Majority are single parents raising their children with a meagre income source ie waste picking. Some of the children are going to Government schools. When  we heard about the situation, Shoshana decided to start a sewing class for the ladies so that they  have an opportunity of having an alternate income source. Providing them with a sewing machine and other sewing equipment so that they can starting working as soon as they finish their class.

The women take turns in attending the sewing class since they have to work for their living all day long. Their income mostly depend on the amount of waste they collect each day and sell it in a scrap shop.

They are still considered as untouchables in the society even today, it is difficult to find a job outside but at least they could stitch for their families and among their community. If possible they could as well find a job at a tailor shop.

Special thanks to all the donors who made it possible for these women to have an opportunity of having a better life and specially donating for providing them with a sewing machine.
