Visit to Vijayawada Sewing Project - Nov-12




We visited one of the sewing projects in Vijayawada on dated 7/11. The sewing project is in the old city of Vijayawada. First it was started in Wynchpet with Mrs.Srivani as the instructor. She was a teacher before she started working with Shoshana . She trained needy women in this area for more than 10years. Most of her students are Muslims from near by slums. With the  help from  shoshana ,most of them have their own work shops. Srivani recently she moved to Raja rajeswari pet, Vijayawada which is also in old city.

Its mainly a sewing training course with embroidery and painting for weekly once.

After training, the instructor see that they get work until they are independent.

Padma
Name of the student: Padma
She is a  30 yr old married woman with two kids. Her husband is a running a small cool drink shop and besides that she set up her tailoring shop. Before getting the free training course she was a domestic helper.

Presently she is working for a ready made shop besides her regular work.
There are a few more women like her in this area who finished training from Shoshana sewing project and working for ready made shops.
