Distribution of Sewing Machines - Chenchula colony, Gannavaram.

Shoshana sewing project at Gannavaram for Chenchula community women. There are around 500 families living in this area. Their main occupation is rag picking, fishing, selling plastic stuff, begging etc

Women are illiterates and usually have child marriages. Children never enrolled in school and they go along with their parents for rag picking. In order to give them an alternate living source, Shoshana started sewing project in November-2021 with the intention of giving free sewing classes to women  those who are interested in learning stitching.

So far around 20 women got trained in sewing at our project and each one of them got a sewing machine and a certificate after finishing their training so that they could work in a tailoring shop or at least stitch clothes for their families.

On behalf of all the beneficiaries, I thank all the donors who made it possible in giving a life time opportunity for these women.

SHOSHANA SEWING PROJECT, PANDARIPURAM - CHILAKALURIPET

Started especially for the tribal community women who migrated to Pandaripuram, Chilakaluripet from northern region of Andhra Pradesh in search of work. They were generally building and road construction coolies, rickshaw pullers, daily workers in a tobacco company etc. They used in live in roadside small temporary shelters later Government provided them with basic housing.

In order to give the women an alternate living source, Shoshana started a sewing centre in this area in the year 2006. Since then more than 400 women got both tailoring and embroidery training at the sewing centre. Majority of them are working and helping themselves and their families.

This is possible only with the continuous support from many of the German friends and local societies are also going hand in hand with them.

Besides the regular sewing class, these women also asked for the basic embroidery class.

First aid help at Fishermen community, Ramapuram. Started in 2005 after the tsunami. Many people lost their boats, nets and other equipment which are necessary for their livelihood. Even some lost their lives. Shoshana helped them with fishing nets etc. The area was so backward back then.  In order to have a long time help for the people there, Shoshana started medical help since they had no medical access.

Shoshana has been giving medical help to people since then. Its almost 20 yrs now. Still we are consistent in helping the people with free medication along with B.P and Sugar check ups.

Distribution of Sewing machines at Shoshana Sewing Project, Giripuram, Vijayawada.

Shoshana distributed  sewing machines to seven needy women at Shoshana sewing centre, Giripuram, Vijayawada.

These seven beneficiaries are training at Shoshana sewing centre for the last seven months. Still three months more to finish their course. This program is about providing employment to these women,  there will be a source of income, they can handle their own expenses, can take care of themselves and their families.

While the tailoring course is going on, the women are motivated to take full advantage of the free classes and to be self employed by the time they finish the course. To make the process easy, Shoshana has been providing sewing machines and necessary tool kits  to the women while doing the training so that they can practice more at home and also earn some money while they are still learning.

On behalf of all the beneficiaries my heartful thanks to all the donors who made it possible.

CDS - SHOSHANA MEDICAL CENTRE - RAAVIPADU - NARASARAOPET

Basic first aid help at Raavipadu area. It is a small area with different backward communities mostly agricultural workers.  Located on the outskirts of Narasaraopet town.

Giving out free blood pressure and sugar checkups for the needy people. First aid centers turned out to be quite useful for the people here especially for the old people who can't afford to go to the hospital in town and who are far away from the nearest medical access. Shoshana has been giving free medication for the last few years besides free checkups.

Martha was visiting all the Shoshana projects  after a long gap of four years. It was good to see the people and interact with them.
