Shoshana Sewing Centre, Chilakaluripet

Specially started for a tribal community at Sugali Colony, Chilakaluripet. One of the members of Shoshana, Germany Mrs. Getraud took the responsibility of supporting the centre for the last 10 years and happy to say that so far more than 150 women got free sewing and embroidery training at this project and still there are many needy women who are interested to learn the skill.

The instructors Mrs Sumathi and Mrs.Swetha are taking good care of the women and see that they start their own work at home or work for a tailor shop after completion of the course.

All the women are very thankful for the donors who have been supporting them continuously for getting an education as well as providing with a sewing machine for their self help.

Some pics from Shoshana Sewing Centre, Bapatla.

Want to share some news about one of the former students of Shoshana Sewing Centre, Bapatla.

Her name is Jaya. She is a former student of Shoshana sewing centre. We visited her house just to see what she is doing after her course as a part of follow up. She got a sewing machine from Shoshana and she has her own shop at home.

She is married and her husband is a photographer. She has two boys. Elder one is a mentally challenged boy. Younger one is in his tenth standard. She couldn't go out to work as she has to take care of the boy who is bed ridden. She heard about Shoshana and the free sewing class and joined the class.

She is very happy now that she could earn some money on her own at home besides taking care of her son.

She thanked all the donors who helped her in learning a skill and being independent and support her family.

Medical help for weavers in Epurupalem and Lohiyapuram.

Chirala is famous for textile business specially for hand loom weaving. Source of livelihood for thousands of weavers. Independent weavers and also working as daily wage workers.

Weavers and their families suffer from a range of health issues. They suffer from backache and poor eyesight as they work in dark dingy places sitting continuously for eight to nine hours. As most of the looms are situated in a house where there is no adequate light and ventilation, it results in weavers being afflicted by weak eyesight and serious respiratory ailments, shortness of breath, cough and wheezing due to allergic reaction to dust and fungi in cotton fibres.
Some of the weavers are living in colonies where the Government alloted them with free houses. On the request of these people Shoshana started free medical centres in and around Chirala giving them first aid help.

Shoshana Medical projects close to the coast.

Keeping in view the needy areas which are far away from the town and without any basic medical facility, Shoshana has been providing  first aid help and free check ups  to the needy people of coastal area.

Most of the  places where we have the medical centres are far away from the town with no proper transport facility. Majority of the people there , are not in a position to afford regular sugar tests or blood pressure taken so Shoshana is providing them with free check ups and giving out basic medication needed for people.

Medical help for Semi tribal people living as rag pickers and scavengers on the outskirts of chirala.

Suffering from very poor conditions in terms of hygiene, poverty and lack of safe drinking water, resulting in major health problems such as diarrhea, malaria, TB, anaemia etc.

On the request of the local society, Shoshana started giving medical help in this area a few years back. Society provided with a room to set up the centre where Shoshana arranged for a regular nurse who takes care of all the first aid needs of the people here.

Visit to different medical projects of Shoshana.

The medical centres have mostly elderly patients and
the most emphasized symptoms was pains.
Other problems like fatigue, breathing difficulty, acidity etc
Specific diseases were only hypertension and diabetes.

Shoshana has medical centres mostly in remote areas which are far away from the nearest medical access. This help is useful for them especially when they have difficulty in getting even the basic medication.

Loneliness is also one of their problems so usually they spend some time at the medical centre to talk to other people.

We get to know that more people are asking for medical help from different villages.

These women  come from rural background depended mainly on agriculture but  most of them are  not allowed to work outside of the home . The sewing training will provide self employment at their home, can give them a daily income.

The training will provide skills in embroidery and tailoring. Both training and employment help women to become self reliant.

Random Pictures from Shoshana Medical centres at different places in Prakasam and Guntur Districts.

Shoshana is setting up first aid centres at different rural areas and urban slums, which is particularly important for isolated or deprived population groups that may not have the means to access these basic medical services otherwise.

These areas are located far away from  the hospitals. No proper transportation to reach for the nearest medical help.  Shoshana is setting up first aid centres in such areas which could help them in emergencies.

The local societies are helping in taking  nurses who are ready to work in such areas where the needy people should be able to get any medicines or services without any hindrance.
