Shoshana Medical Project - Rosy colony, Chirala.

Rosy colony is a backward tribal  area on the outskirts of Chirala. Around 100 families are living in this colony. Population is about 500 to 600 people. They are migrants from the neighboring states and have been living here for more than four decades. Their main occupation is construction workers, richshaw pullers, waste pickers etc. Government provided land for them to build houses and they have basic living conditions.

They have no proper medical facilities near by and the nearest access is roughly four kms away from the area. On the request of the people here, Shoshana started a first aid centre recently.
 Some pics from the area.

The nurse Ms. Lavanya is in charge of the medical  project giving out basic first aid help.

There are many older people in this colony those who can't afford to go the Government hospital which is four km away from the area.

Medical Centre is providing free blood pressure checkups  and sugar  tests for the patients. This is quiet useful for many who can't afford to pay for the tests. Also free basic medication.

Sharing a few pics from the Shoshana sewing project, started recently in the month of Nov-2021 for tribal women.

Second group of women  who are having a free sewing class. Already a group of five women finished their class and got their sewing machines and certificate. They started working on their own and we are going to share their pictures asap.

This is the second group of women. Their main occupation was rag picking and begging. But lately for the last  few years, they slowly started working as maids and daily workers and sending their children to school. They are still an under privileged community.

Distribution of Sewing machines - Gamela Bazar, Vijayawada.

Sewing project at the rag pickers colony - Gamela bazar, Vijayawada.

First group of women who finished their sewing class at Gamela bazar, Vijayawada. With the initiation from a social worker friend, Shoshana started Sewing project at the Rag picker's colony whose main occupation is waste picking, segregating and bringing the waste to a place where they could sell it. As we found out, in the process, majority of the women are prone to diseases, abuse, different addictions etc. Couldn't send their children to school, single parenting and finally ending up bringing their children to the same profession.

In order to give the needy women another means of livelihood and a better living, Shoshana started a sewing project under the supervision of Mrs. Hemima. The first group of 5 women started their sewing class in Nov-21 and finished by the end of July-22.

Shoshana provided them with a sewing machine and a certificate. Though these machines are used ones  the women could use them without any problem. Also they could start their work right away and the instructor Hemima would do the follow ups.

On behalf of all the Sewing projects, I thank everyone who supports our Shoshana Projects in giving a better life to the needy women.

Shoshana Sewing Centre - Pedanandipadu village.

Present group of women at Shoshana sewing project, Pedanandipadu village.  The women are almost towards the end of the tailoring course. Blouse stitching  which the last part in their course. In villages women mostly wear sarees so for them if they could stitch a blouse then they could earn 200 to 250 rupees per piece.

All the women are happy to have a free class and thanks to all the donors who made it possible for them to have an alternate earning source besides their regular work in agricultural fields.

All the women are doing very well under the supervision of Mrs. Sivakumari who has been with Shoshana for more than fifteen years. She has her own tailoring shop and providing jobs to some of her students as well.

The women sell their samples at the tailor shop or some time give away for those who are in need.

We had a video call with our M.D Mrs.Martha, interacting with the women since she couldn't come to India for the last 2 years.

Women showing the samples made by them.

Shoshana Medical Project - Dasaripalem, Guntur district.

Shoshana started working in partnership with a local society which has been doing many social activities for children and old people in Dasaripalem area . As a part of their activities, they approached Shoshana for setting up a medical project for the needy people in their area.

Dasaripalem is a backward area with people who are mainly daily workers. Government allotted this area for backward communities. For many years these people were living off grid without any facilities like roads, water and electricity. Over the years they were provided with few facilities still there are no proper roads to go to this area.

In case of medical emergency reaching the nearest medical help is also a problem for them so after observing the need, Shoshana started giving medical help in this area from the year 2018 with a regular nurse. Shoshana's medical project turned out to be very useful for the people in that area especially old people who can't afford to reach the nearest medical help.

The nurse here is Mrs. Swathi who has a three year degree in nursing and has the experience of working in a private hospital before.  For the last one year she has been taking care of the medical project and happy to help the needy here.

This pic showing our M.D Mrs. Martha, who was talking to the nurse Mrs. Swathi. She couldn't come to India for the last two years due to the Covid situation but she is very much in touch with all the projects virtually.

 Shoshana Sewing Project - Chilakaluripet

Summer slowly started fading away. Had first rains at a few places already. Waiting for the monsoon to come soon after the scorching heat. All the sewing projects had a brief  summer break and  resumed their work except for  the medical projects which are open all year long.

Chilakaluripet is surrounded with hilly areas  with lot of  stone crushing plants and pulses and cereal fields. The women who join the sewing class mostly come from agricultural background or daily workers in these stone crushing plants.

Here are a few pics from the Shoshana sewing project, Chilakaluripet. The present group is going to have their sewing training certificate very soon. The present group started a year back, due to Covid, the instructor as well as all the women got effected so the course duration took more than the usual time.

The instructor Mrs. Sumathi is one of our best instructors so far. She is a hands on trainer and see that each women makes the best use of the class. She has a well organized schedule for the sewing class.  Each one of the student has a proper map with miniature samples along with measurements  which they keep with them as a reference. Simultaneously they do the actual models which they use it for themselves or disturb to the needy people around their area.

Interested women after finishing the sewing class,  join the embroidery and painting class which is also available at the centre.
