Pacchala thadiparru medical project

Hai,

Today we have been to two projects, one medical and one sewing. Medical Project is in a village called Pacchala thadi parru which is 4kms away from Ponnur and 20kms away from Guntur.

It was started recently and located besides  the main road to Guntur. P.T.parru is  more a village and the location of the medical project is in a Christian area. Local people provided their community hall for the medical centre. The area is still very poor and needy and majority of the people are daily workers. There is no near by medical help for them.

Starting a medical centre and providing free medication in that area turned out to be very useful for the people and quite practical. Ponnur is the only near by place where they can get medicines before.

Nurse working in this centre is Sukhaveni. She is a trained nurse and midwife. She improved quite a bit than before, getting along with the patients, treating them and bringing them to the doctor if necessary.

People around the area are very happy with the services and expressed their heart ful gratitude to all the donors of Shoshana.. Martha is also happy with the nurse and advised her to be patient with her people, give some space for the people to open up ,share  their problems and give them counselling  and bring out the real meaning of serving people.

Government people also came to know about our help in that area and they came forward to provide some medicines for the centre from their side sometimes, taking the help of the nurse in some of their medical help programmes and work together with the nurse.

Kadavakuduru Medical Project

Today we visited our very first medical centre which is in Kadavakuduru. Kadavakuduru is a small village 20kms away from Chirala and on the way to Ongole. Medical support for the needy people started here in 2000 Sep; It was started in the village community hall and has been giving its first aid services for the people for the last 10 years.

Recently it was moved to an individual room which is near to Kadavakuduru railway station. The Centre is located in the area  with lots of poor backward caste people who are mainly agricultural labourers, cashewnut pickers and fishermen. The area is full of cashew nut fields and  is very famous for good quality cashew nuts.

The Nurse working in this centre is Rajakumari. She is the second nurse here  who has been working with us for a long time. She is from this area who is  friendly with the patients, patient towards knowing their problems and helping them out with necessary medication.

She is a lower middle class lady whose husband is a daily worker in a granite factory and has two daughters. She herself coming from a poor background has a heart for the surrounding needy people to treat and give them the necessary health tips as far as possible with the help and support from Shoshana - Germany.

Martha had a  talk with the people there and she tried to find out with the nurse, the common diseases right now in that area , any special cases who are in desperate need of help and some personal information about the nurse.

Martha expressed her opinion, not just visiting the projects, to see that the staff of Shoshana has a good family situation too which will obviously have a major impact on their professional work.

Guntur - Sewing Project

Today we visited our very first sewing project which is in Nehru nagar, Guntur. Name of the instructor is Nirmala. She is the lady who has been working with our organization from the beginning. Every time we go there we are very happy to see her attending the students and see that they come out with good skills in stitching successfully for the last 10 years irrespective of all the problems she has in her personal life.

She has been teaching in the same area from the beginning and it is amazing to see that she has always enough students interested in learning stitching.  Good part is that she is not only good in teaching, she tries hard to put them in jobs , help them setting up their shop at home or show them the ways where they can work after they finish the course..Most of her previous students are really very successful in their own business.

Present batch has 8 students and they are almost to the end of the course. Nirmala is planning to put  their products for sale, so the students have enough practice while they learn and know each detail before going into real work on their own. They will have a chance to work besides learning.With the income they get from their products they can improve their own centre.

Martha is satisfied with the work Nirmala is doing, checked with the students' work  and she gave Nirmala some tips for the students regarding the future products which would be necessary ,which are not available in the market and which they can make at a low price and earn more.

Bapatla Sewing Project

Today me and Martha visited one of our old sewing projects. The name of the instructor is Manjula.She is a widow and has two sons. First she started in Ravinuthala, Khammam district in the year 2002. She was in a very desperate condition when we started her project. Her children are very young and were in a orphanage home. At that time she couldn't afford to keep her children with her and she was working as a helper in houses.
With the sewing knowledge she has, she approached us.Later in 2005 she moved to Gollapudi, Krishna district . By this time she was in a position to keep her children with her and send them to school on her own and now last year i.e. in 2010, she moved to Bapatla, Guntur district. Till now she successfully completed teaching stitching and embroidery to around 85 students.

Her sons also are very successful in school and one of them is studying IIT in Karagpur. Her present batch has 8 students. They are about to finish their course in a month.The area where she  is living right now is towards the beach and is rather a poor and lower middle class area. Most of the students are from poor background like daily workers in fields.

Students are very excited to start their own shop as soon as they finish their course. They already started working for their neighbours while they are learning under the supervision of Manjula. This is actually very helpful for them to learn from their mistakes before going into their own business.

The present batch is a happy bunch of students, friendly with their teacher and Manjula also is vey happy with them and also with the  local people who are taking care of her as well as the community there.

The happiness and success brought in the lives of people like Manjula and many more students is only because of the constant help and support by many people from Germany through Shoshana.

Today when we went there, Government programme called Rachhabanda is going on there in that area. The Government officials and politicians are attending to  the problems and finding necessary solution to the people there.

Its happy that both the Government and N.G.O's are going  hand in hand for the development of the community in that area in their respective ways.

Navodaya nagar Sewing Project, Narasaraopet

Our Second visit for today's Schedule is visiting our new sewing project at Navodaya nagar, Narasaraopet which is started two months back.

First visit for Martha to this centre after the Inuguration. The Stitching instructor, Mrs. Satyavathi has 10 students right now for the first batch. The students are in the basic stage of learning stitching.

The teacher is very excited and willing towards teaching the students.The students have to go around 8 months more to finish their course. I hope they turn out to be good by the end of the course under the supervision of Mrs. Satyavathi.

Martha checked with the instructor, went through the stitching samples made by the students, gave instructions to the students as well as the teacher for their better learning.

Yellamandha Medical Project

Today we started our first project visit i.e on 31st Jan-2011. We visited two of our new projects, one is a medical centre and one is a sewing centre.

Medical Centre is at the outskirts of Yellamandha village which would be around 10 kms from Narasaraopet town, Guntur District. Medical Centre is located in one of the poor areas of Yellamandha where most of the people are daily workers belonging to Christian community.There are many old people and children in this area who need medical support and who are not in a position to afford going to a hospital for even small first aid help.

Their living is mainly based on daily wages which they can't afford to skip for staying in a hospital or going to a Government hospital which is far from their area. So a regular nurse going around their area serving them and giving immediate free medical support is a great help to them which we are able to give through our Shoshana medical centre in their area.

Our M.D Martha visited the new medical centre for the first time after the inuguration  which was two month back. So she checked with the nurse Mrs. Padmavathi, the medical facilities available in the centre , moved around the area to just check out the situation and talk with the people and to know their problems.

The local Society member, Mr.Hanumantha Rao who is a farmer is taking care of the centre and he is taking responsibility for the people in that area constantly checking out the medical needs of the people  and see that they get regular help.

Today our M.D Martha is coming to India for her first visit in this new year-2011.. She is going to come via Chennai. By tomorrow night she is going to come over to our office, Chirala.  Our visit Schedule starts from 31st Jan onwards. I will be updating our project visits from Monday onwards. Waiting for her arrival.
