CDS- Shoshana Sewing Centre - Anaparru

The sewing class started at the beginning of this year and the current group is almost towards the end of the class. All four women from are from this village and have come from agricultural background. Two of the women are coolies in fields and two are housewives.

We have female teachers in all our sewing projects and the one in Anaparru is Mrs. Saranya. Her mother is also a sewing teacher in one of our sewing projects.

Going forward our goal is provide each of the trainees with a sewing machine and basic equipment for stitching after completion of the class. This would help them to start their own businesses.

We have together taught them how to stitch and now they need necessary equipment to start working on their own. This would complete the empowerment cycle.

The women were excited to show what they have learned in the class.

 CDS-Shoshana Medical Centre, Bhanunagar, Vijayawada.

Shoshana Medical center is set up in Bhanu nagar, Vijayawada where there is a large slum  to provide access to good medical facility.  Especially to provide information to the people on how to maintain a hygienic environment in the surroundings

The urban slum dwellers are most vulnerable to  lack of access to health care. Slums are usually overcrowded and children under the age of five are vulnerable to malnutrition and infectious diseases.

Even though slum people live close to health services they have difficulty getting needed care. They can't afford the cost of health care and also they can't take time off to seek care because they work all the time to meet their needs.

Improving health services in slums will have a large impact on health in developing countries and because slums are overcrowded, better health services could benefit many people at once. Our aim is to give them good quality health care and provide free essential medication

 CDS-Shoshana Medical Centre, Dasaripalem, Guntur.

Summer this year had been very harsh on people especially for those who generally  outdoors like construction workers , agricultural workers etc Temperatures were so high, it was even very difficult to get out of the house but their job force them to be under direct sunlight for long periods and faced many problems  like tiredness, dehydration etc

They have no option. If they don't go to work they have nothing to eat. Besides they have work only for a few days a month.

Dasaripalem is a very backward area on the outskirts of Guntur. Government allotted houses to backward communities who are daily wage workers. They are still devoid of all the basic facilities. No proper roads and their condition is worse during the rainy season. There is no proper access to the nearest medical help.

There are a no. of old people too in this area who are in need of medical help.

Keeping in view the situation, Shoshana started its first aid services in this area in the year 2018. From then it has been giving out first aid help and basic medical services including free medication, B.P and sugar check ups  to all the needy people here with a regular nurse.

Sewing straight lines and then moving on to corners and curves.

Basic hand sewing fundamentals for making simple repairs and adjustments for day to day clothing needs.

Showing some pictures from the new group of women at one of our sewing projects from Vijayawada who started their tailoring course in June-2023.

All these women are from in  and around Giripuram, Vijayawada. Coming from very needy backgrounds each one has a story. The instructor Ms.Hemima came to know about their situation picked them for the new group and is encouraging them to learn the skill so that it could definitely make their life situations better.

Here is a story of one of the women:

Vani from Giripuram, Vijayawada. She is 21yrs old, finished her school.  Stopped her education because of the financial situation at home but she  is very much interested to study further. She joined her graduation course in a distance education mode.

Father was a carpenter. He is  diabetic. Two years back he had a brain stroke and is completely bed ridden now. He has gone totally blind over the years. Mother was a daily worker. Their family situation was better when both her parents were working. Because of her father's situation her mother is  at home taking care of him. Her brother who also stopped studies is the only earning member in the family. He is a daily worker in a welding shop. With his meagre income it is difficult for them to get along with their  household expenses and medical expenses along with their house rents.

Vani joined the sewing class recently. She with her basic sewing skills, is earning a very small amount like with putting hooks on blouses. making pillow covers, hand sewing saree falls etc.

She is requesting for a sewing machine so that she could practice more and also earn some money by doing some repairs or alterations for basic clothing needs while doing her sewing course.

By the time she finishes her sewing course she would be ready to go , work on her own and support her family.
